Although today’s blog is about ‘Do-it-yourself’ Halloween Phone Cases and PopSocket, let us avail this opportunity and tell our readers a brief history of Halloween, so that the holiday becomes less of a mystery. Most of the Canadians know very little about this spooky holiday. So, maybe Halloween isn’t your thing. After all, it has not been a very big deal here in Canada in the past. But every year, it is getting more and more popular here too. Its exact origins are a bit mysterious, but it is believed to have roots in ancient Celtic traditions dating back at least 2,000 years.
Brief History of Halloween
Farmers living in a part of the world now known as Ireland held a festival called “Samhain”. It was to mark the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. Back then, the Celts celebrated their New Year on the 1st of November and the day before that was seen as a time when the realms of the living and the dead became blurred. Villages lit bonfires believing they were warding off evil spirits and dressed up as demons so that if they happened to bump into one, it wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
In the ninth century, Christianity arrived in Celtic lands, bringing with it a holiday called All Saints’ Day – a day for people to remember and honor saints. The day before it was called All Hallow’s Eve. Because they were held on the same day, it is thought that Samhain and All Hallow’s Eve eventually merged to become the occasion we now call Halloween. Irish immigrants took the tradition to the US, where it took off. Dressing up and trick-or-treating became big in the 1930s. And it has been helped along ever since by the corporations that make money selling lollies and costumes and pumpkins and all the rest.
But some people are of the view that ancient pagans began this spooky tradition. Without refuting anyone, let’s acknowledge the fact that these days, Halloween has a new definition. For all of us, it’s all about getting dressed up and seeing how much junk food we can round up. These days Halloween is a different kind of night. The night is all about a plateful of sweets, the cats, ghosts, zombies, streets, children, and trick or treats. Not to mention all the yummy chocolates you get on this festive night. We know how much DSD Mobile customers and readers love chocolate!
But if you’re officially too old for a trick-or-treat, and have been healed emotionally from having to say goodbye to all that free chocolate and candy, you can try out these DIY Phone Cases for Halloween and dress your phone up as spooky as yourself on the Halloween night this year.
DIY Phone Cases and Popsockets for the Halloween
So in this blog, we’re going to show our readers how to make a DIY ghost phone case using any of the phone cases available on DSD Mobile. One of our customers bought a phone case from us and turned it into a ghost phone case. She shared a picture with us on Facebook, and this triggered the idea of having an entire blog post dedicated for turning phone cases into a Ghost Phone Case for the Halloween festival. She also made a DIY Popsocket and shared with us the ‘recipe’ so that others can benefit from it and we’ve decided to include that in this post too. So, without further ado, let’s just get into it.
Halloween themed Popsocket
First, remove the hooks from two suction cups and super glue them together back-to-back. Once that has dried, take an orange construction paper to trace your Popsocket around it. Then, cut out the circle and cover it with some tape and then use some black puffy paint to make a jack-o-lantern face. Now attach your pumpkin with some tape instead of superglue, so that it could be taken off easily. This makes it easy to change out your designs for different seasons and also, if you take it off and you just leave the back one as a suction cup, you can use it to stick your phone to, like the wall or a mirror. This is great for taking hands-free photos and videos
Halloween themed Phone Case
This case is the ‘glow-in-the-dark’ ghost case. The first thing you need to do is download some ghost images from Google, cut them out and tape them to the inside of your phone case. Then, go over them with a white paint pen. After that, take a black paint pen and fill in the eyes. Once that dries, peel off the paper from the inside of the phone case. Now paint the inside of the case with some black acrylic paint and keep on painting layers until it is completely opaque. Then, take some glow-in-the-dark paint and go over the ghost with it. Then, go in with some black puffy paint and fill in the eyes and the mouths of the ghosts. Once the paint dries, your Halloween themed phone case is ready to go.
Halloween themed Black and Orange Drip Phone Case
You can make another case which we call black and orange drip phone case, and needless to say, it’s quite easy to do. All you have to do is to take some orange puffy paint and paint sort of like drips down the phone case. Then, wait for it to dry and go over it with some black puffy paint, and wait for that to dry up too. It would be fine with just two layers. However, if you think for some reason that you need three or more, that would be okay too. Then, take some black acrylic paint and just paint the inside as our customer did with the other case. Once that dries, your phone case is done.
Make sure your phone is ready to appear ghostly on this Halloween. If you are facing any issues with your phone, and doubt it would not be there with you to capture the scenes, get it sorted for your Iphone or Samsung phone right now, and make sure the event goes worth-having.
